A Lower Primary Enrichment that gets better and better with each passing year.

Q1: Why should my Winning Kid continue with primary enrichment? Wouldn't the foundation programme be enough, since it has sufficiently equipped my child with the reading and writing skills?

Learning is a continuous journey, especially so in the case of English in the context of the Singapore Educational System. Moving on to Primary level enrichment simply reinforces what has been started with the Foundation programme, and is highly recommended.

Q2: I understand that the primary course is an extension of the Winning Way 5 Super Foundation, how adapted is this programme for non-winning kids?

Of course, having kids start with the Super Foundation programme would definitely give them the necessary headstart in the learning of English. However, the Primary enrichment is built in such a way that it allows the teacher to adapt it to benefit the individual child, whether or not he/she comes direct from the Winning Ways programme. We believe that in education and in the learning of English, it should always be a case of better late than never!

Q3: If you claim that Winning Kids have a headstart, then how could these children be put together with non-winning kids?

Again, our teachers are experienced child educators, and they are trained to ensure both Winning and non-Winning kids can come together to reinforce and enhance each other's learning experience. Remember, English is alive, and learning it is best served by usage through interaction.

Q4: Is 2 hours too long for Primary 1? My child can’t even sit still for an hour.

This is precisely why classes are not 1-to-1, but kept at a comfortable number of 6 students to a class. This setting allows interaction and ensures kids maintain the hunger for learning throughout the 2 hours. And since the class is kept informal (to a certain degree, of course), they can always get up and stretch anytime.

Q5: If the class has different ability children, do you assess and group them according to ability?

From past experience, we have not seen a need to do so as our programme is structured in such a way that allows our experienced teachers to play a key role in ensuring that kids of different ability can come together yet learn at their own pace. They will also continually apprise parents of the individual child’s progress in class and render advice on what parents can do to further enhance and promote the child’s learning of the language.

Q6: Even assessment books cover composition, vocabulary, grammar and comprehension, so how different are i-Creative Learner materials?

Our materials are centred around what students need to know and be able to do in order to master the language. Students are given challenging and engaging instructions intended to draw out higher order thinking processes from them. Our programme is rigorous in coverage, and materials are kept current, alive and relevant, to allow the children a contextual frame of reference (i.e. Current Affairs) that is simply not available in any textbook. However, simply providing materials is also not enough. Much is dependent on a teacher’s execution and delivery of the lesson so that children can maximise learning from the materials provided. At i-Creative Learner , our teachers are trained to ensure optimum learning in each child.

Q7: In what way is your programme different from private tuition conducted at homes?

As explained above, i-Creative Learner classes are not delivered on a 1-to-1 basis but kept at a comfortable number of 6 students to a class (in a student-centred learning environment) to ensure students maintain the hunger for learning throughout the 2 hours through supervised interaction.

Q8: In what way is your programme different from those conducted at private centres?

Classes held at most tuition centres tend to be focused on rigid and intensive drilling, and many kids have developed an aversion to such methods/environment. This might be fine for subjects that stress formulaic knowledge absorption such as Mathematics and Science, but not for English. i-Creative Learner lessons are designed to enrich and empower the child to use the language confidently, not drill-feed.

Q9: How qualified are your teachers?

Apart from our teachers' own teaching credentials and experience, they are also in-house trained to teach the i-Creative Learner curriculum. They are experienced not just in teaching English but in working with children and are able to create an environment that promotes and inspires learning (rather than one that forces a child to learn and in so doing, kills the interest for the language.)

Q10: Can your teachers guarantee an improvement in my child's marks?

The i-Creative Learner programme has benefited hundreds of children through the years it has been in operation. Our parent-testimonials speak volumes of the positive outcomes. Although countless many have experienced this as a direct improvement through better marks, this is not the first and only objective of i-Creative Learner, which is to create joy in the learning of English. The positive results go far beyond the examination results.

Q11: Is it possible to cover so much within 2 hours?

Yes, it is. The i-Creative Learner programme has been tweaked and fine-tuned over the years, and in our experience, a 2-hour session per lesson is just right.

Q12: If my child is weak, won't he be on the losing end? Won't he just be copying answers?

Weak children will learn differently from stronger ones, but the important thing is they will still learn. The i-Creative Learner programme allows children to progress at their own pace, moderated by the teachers' experience. Much like sitting for an open-book exam, children will be taught to think creatively and objectively. Copying is discouraged. Instead, i-Creative Learner's teachers are trained to engage and guide the child to bring out his/her level best.

Q13: How do your teachers strike a balance between the weaker students and the stronger students?

Among other i-Creative Learner teaching strategies, the teachers will direct questions with differing levels of difficulty to students, based on their ability, while at the same time allowing all kids the opportunity to attempt beyond their comfort zone. In essence, our teachers are focused in drawing the best out of every student without compromising on their sensitivities. This method has worked wonders in boosting the confidence of our students across the board.
